RISING FROM THE ASHES:

Recognizing Speaker Kevin Jones, Santa Barbara County Fire Engineer

One of the most moving speakers at this year’s TEDx event was Kevin
Jones, a fi e engineer who spoke about his experience during the Thomas
Fire, which destroyed 2,000 homes and took the lives of two people,
including a fellow fi e engineer who left behind a pregnant wife and two-
year-old daughter. Jones encouraged audience members to “live with
eyes open,” understanding the true power of mother nature, and knowing
that nothing in the path of fi e or water is as important as human life.
LAGUNA BLANCA MAGAZINE up signs and cheered him on, thanking him for his dedication throughout
Jones’ speech touched the hearts of everyone in attendance, who held

the disaster. Laguna community members were so grateful that they gifted
him and his family a getaway to Palm Springs, Disneyland passes, and
Laguna spirit wear.
