LAGUNA COLLABORATION WITH THE SANTA BARBARA BALLET--A
ROUSING SUCCESS!
Through the direction, writing, and choreography
of Laguna's Charles
Donelan and Cecily Stewart of the State Street
Ballet, an ambitious incarnation of Library Dances' The Scarlet Letter
was performed in Spaulding Auditorium on Tuesday. "With the
intellectual, artistic, and athletic ebb and flow of the State Street
ballet dancers and the AP Language & Global Literature
LBS students, it was a beautiful wild ride of a show,"
explains English Instructor Ashley Tidey. The collaboration was in
addition to the English class unit on The Scarlet Letter, such as
reading, quizzes, essays, research, and criticism. "Students
were able to experience the thrill of transferring knowledge gained
through reading to narrative told through movement," adds Dr.
Donelan.
Congratulations to all!
If you missed the performance, please enjoy the pics!

KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADERS GET SCHOOLED AS
"SWOOPER CITIZENS"
Character building is a staple of the progressive
education students receive at Laguna Blanca. This year, students in
kindergarten and first grades are participating in this pilot program
to learn the importance of character building as a lifelong skill.
The goal of the program is to focus on character traits commonly associated
with 21st century skills such as fairness, integrity, morality, and
cooperation. Students will learn the basics of character education by
process of a weekly theme, reading associated literature, classroom
discussions supported by field trips and a musical play performance
in April.

to see how they explored the fine line between confidence and boastfulness
this week.
