LAGUNA BLANCA MAGAZINE SUMMER 2015
Kathy Sheahan Reid ’62 has been a loyal and
involved LBS alumna for more than 50 years.
When she and her husband, Kemble White,
were reviewing their estate plans at about
the same time that Rob Hereford arrived as
Laguna’s new Head of School, they wanted
to demonstrate their support for him and the
school in a lasting, significant way. Following
a campus visit in August, the couple made a
leadership gift to establish the George and
Sally Hall ’46 Endowment Fund.
The gift was named for the late George
Hall, the former rector of All Saints
Episcopal Church in Montecito and alumna
Sally McKinstry Hall, a member of Laguna
Blanca’s class of 1946. Four of the Hall’s five
children also attended Laguna (Ninna Hall
Yanoff ’62, Frances Hall Kieschnick ’71,
Julia Hall Parish ’71, Sarah Hall
Gordon ’74); son Brad was a graduate of
Williston Northampton boarding school
in Maine. “The love and care of Sally and
George meant the world to me when I was
growing up,” said Kathy. “They were almost
surrogate parents to me, and I was devoted to
them.”
The endowment, when fully funded, will
provide ongoing support for faculty initiatives
and teaching resources. “Our teachers already
go above and beyond for our students, and
they are truly our greatest asset. This gift will
make an extraordinary faculty even better,”
Rob Hereford said in announcing the gift.
“By making the lead gift to establish the
fund, Sally and Kemble have also provided an
opportunity for others to join them in making
a lasting difference at Laguna.”
Kathy Sheahan Reid attended Crane
School before joining Laguna Blanca School
as a ninth grader. She developed a close bond
with then Headmaster Jack Adams, whom
she credits for inspiring this gift. She received
a Bachelor’s degree in history from UCSB,
and a master’s degree from the Sloan School
of Business at MIT. She spent many years
managing capital campaigns and major gifts
programs at MIT, Harvard, and USC; she
also returned to Laguna, working with the
development team from 2004-2006.
Kemble White attended the Episcopal
School in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended
Washington & Lee University as an
undergraduate and received a JD from
Washington & Lee School of Law. Kathy and
Kemble have three children, Kemble, Morgan,
and Jim; and five grandchildren.
