SUMMER 2014

33

How do you hope to continue to grow Laguna’s
alumni programs under your leadership?

It’s been exciting to see the ways that our outgoing
president,David Bradley ’99, has contributed to
increasing alumni engagement at Laguna, from
Sports Night to our Alumni AthleticDays. One of my
top priorities is to continue to reconnect all of our
alums, regardless of where they live, to the school.
For example, we encourage alumni to become involved
with a particular department or program they feel
passionate about. We will continue to find innovative
and fulfilling ways to engage the alumni and involve
them in the school and with current students. Whether
they share their time and experiences, visit with a
class, serve as a mentor, provide financial support
that helps ensure the future of the school, or come to
play a game of soccer on the fields, it’s their presence
(real or virtual) that will help make Laguna an even
greater school and community in the future.

What do you want Laguna alumni to know about the
school right now?

First, I want them to know that the school is on a
dynamic, upward trajectory, thanks to the inspiring
and committed leadership. Our new Head of School
Rob Hereford and Lower School Head Andy Surber
are both fantastic. Our Lower School campus is one
of the most inspiring places you’ll ever visit and truly
fosters the development of the whole child, teaching
compassion, kindness, and empathy, as well as
academic excellence.

Second, there are so many new programs to

getexcitedabout!TheLeGO®program,STeM,and
coding programs in the Lower and Middle School offer
hands-on learning at every grade level. Students are
developing skills that will serve them well beyond
their academic years and throughout their lives. Our
alumni should come back to campus and see what’s
happening;there’sabuzzofactivityandvitalityon
each campus. One of my favorite things about Laguna
is how the unique qualities of our school endure while
our new programs and curriculum enhancements
keep getting stronger.

Lastly, I want our alumni to know that their

feedback is very important and that there are
opportunities for everyone, from speaking at the
school to supporting our outreach activities or
fundraising. We’ll soon be launching a new alumni
database that will make it even easier to connect
with one another, no matter where in the world our
Owls are currently living. This will be a powerful tool

for both current students and alumni. For instance, if
an alumna in New York City is interested in hiring a
Laguna intern, she will be able to easily find out which
of our students are currently attending university in
the area. We will also continue our networking events
andpopularalumni/varsitysportsgamesduringthe
year. I’m always interested in new ideas and ways to
connect with our alumni in Santa Barbara and around
the world! The stronger the connection between the
alumni and the school, the richer the experience we
can offer students now and for generations to come.

After graduating from Laguna Blanca, Kristen attended
Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont where she
was a double major in English and in French. She
then graduated cum laude from Suffolk University
Law School and worked for a Boston law firm. Kristen
returned to Santa Barbara in 2005 when she joined
Price, Postel & Parma LLP, the oldest law firm in the
state of California. In addition to her work at Laguna,
she is involved with numerous other charitable
organizations, including the Junior League of Santa
Barbara, Santa Barbara Music and Arts Conservatory,
the American Heart Association Planned Giving
Council, and First Presbyterian Church of Santa
Barbara (Planned Giving).

THANKYOU

Laguna extends a warm thank you to
outgoing Alumni Council PresidentDavid
Bradley ’99
, who has done so much to
build and grow our alumni programs in
the past three years.David spearheaded
the development of Laguna’s annual golf
tournament, alumni athletic programs,
and new alumni database system. He
also began a new tradition of inviting our
seniors to attend alumni meetings so that
they can understand what it means to be
a Laguna alum in the larger world. We are
so grateful for all he accomplished.
