SUMMER 2014

25

Nine outstanding Laguna students were honored for
their scholastic achievement at the school’s Cum
Laude Society induction ceremony in April. Cum
Laude Society membership is considered the highest
scholastic achievement at independent schools
nationwide, and Laguna Blanca is one of only 30
schools in the state of California authorized to admit
new members.

This year’s inductees join Chloë Brown ’14,

Margaret Lazarovits ’14, Lindsay Ligon ’14, and
Clara Madsen ’14, who were inducted into the Cum
Laude Society last year as juniors.
Sean Copeland ’95 was the keynote speaker at
this year’s ceremony. Since leaving Laguna, Copeland
attended the United States Military Academy at
West Point, earning a Bachelor’s degree in computer
science and later the officer rank of captain. He has
trained with the Navy Seals, worked at Amazon.com,
and prides himself as a former “homemaker” and
stay-at-home dad for his two daughters, now ages 5
and 7 (which he calls the most challenging job he’s
ever had). Copeland currently works as a software
engineer at Yardi Systems and was also Laguna’s first
CIF champion swimmer.

During his speech, Copeland stressed that Laguna
prepares students for so much more than college
and gave thanks to his former Laguna teachers Peter
Angeloff, Carol Nordgaarden, Dr. Peter Lorber, and Dr.
Larry Miller.
