SUMMER 2014

LAGUNA GETS A SPIKE

 TO ITS GROWING

ATHLETIC COMPLEX!

Need another reason to love
the Laguna sports program?
Laguna students now have three
new sand volleyball courts to
enjoy, thanks to a generous lead
gift from the Bickett family
with design and construction
management donated by the
Zimmerman family through
Zimmerman Construction.

Laguna added a girls sand

volleyball program last spring—
and a boys team this fall—some
of the first among Santa Barbara
area high schools. According
to coach Dillan Bennett, having
its own courts will allow Laguna
to host practices and matches
on campus, and will further
strengthen the school’s already

successful volleyball program.
Laguna girls have won or tied
the Condor League title in each
of the past 12 seasons and the
boys have placed in six of the
past eight seasons. Both teams
have participated in CIF playoffs,
and many players have gone on to
play volleyball in college.

“It’s all very exciting as sand

volleyball continues to gain
momentum as an Olympic sport,
and now as a NCAA Division I and
II sport,” explains Board Chair
Tom Pickett.

 The new sand courts are

located next to the school’s new
tennis courts along the eastern
edge of the athletic fields.
Thank you to the Bickett and
Zimmerman families for their
support of Laguna athletics!
