ANA MCHALE ’06
WINS DISTINGUISHED
CHANCELLOR'S AWARD
Congratulations to Ana McHale ’06, who recently received the UC
Irvine Chancellor Award of Distinction based on academic excellence,
research, leadership, and service. Just 34 of the 8,800 students in the
UCI Class of 2016 received the award. Ana held a chapter coordinator
role with a national mentorship organization called “Eye to Eye,”
which pairs college students and middle schoolers labeled with similar
language, reading, and math-based learning disabilities (LD) and/or
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She graduated this
past spring with a degree in history and plans to attend law school.
Ana, a Laguna Blanca alum, built upon her educational foundations
on her road to self-confidence and eventual self-advocacy, which
allowed her to transform her struggles into strengths while pursuing
her university degree.
She states that, “the most rewarding aspect of being a mentor for
Eye to Eye was giving hope to young students struggling, as I did, in
school with the simple message, ‘If I can do it, you can do it.’”

MORE OWLS FLY
OUT INTO THE WORLD!
As we closed another school year in 2016, we celebrated the graduation of our senior
class. But another round of Owls were also celebrating as they graduated from university
and headed out into the greater world. The following are just a few Laguna alumni who
graduated from college in 2016.
Ana McHale '06 and Chancellor Howard Gillman.
