Golf Chair, Parent, and Trustee Dave Bradley ’99,  Parent, Trustee, and Event Sponsor Bob Fuladi and Guest, Vincent DeRosa

A THANK YOU FROM
HEAD OF SCHOOL ROB HEREFORD

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to parent and alumnus Dave Bradley ’99 for organizing another successful community event—the Laguna Blanca Ace Angeloff Golf Classic. Five years ago while serving as the Alumni Council President, Dave created this event to enhance alumni connections with the school. Each year since, Dave has volunteered to serve as the event chair and has grown the event to now include an important fundraising component to support our school's financial aid program.

On Monday, nearly 80 golfers—parents, grandparents, and alumni—gathered at La Cumbre Country Club for a fun-filled day of golf and raised over $10,000 for Laguna’s Alumni Scholarship Program. Many thanks to all the players and sponsors who continue to give back to the Laguna community and support our students today.

BY NOOZHAWK.COM

Maddy Nicolson '16 of the Laguna Blanca girls volleyball team was honored Monday, November 7 as the Female Athlete of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.

Nicolson was a hitting force on the outside for Laguna Blanca in its second-round and quarterfinal-round wins in the CIF-SS Division 6 volleyball playoffs. The senior posted a double-double of 15 kills and 23 digs in a sweep over Pioneer and pounded a team-high 17 kills in a quarterfinal victory at Hemet. In the team's final game at CIF Semifinals, Nicolson ended with 12 kills and 30 digs.

OWLS WRAP UP THEIR TRIUMPHANT
SEASON IN CIF SEMIFINAL MATCH

BY NOOZHAWK.COM

Top-seeded Laguna Blanca was right where it wanted to be: ahead two games to none and dominating play in the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 girls volleyball semifinal match at home.

Then Tesa Oaks and the Riverside-Woodcrest Christian Royals caught fire. And Laguna Blanca couldn’t extinguish them. Oaks put away a whopping 39 kills and Woodcrest Christian played tremendous defense to score a stunning comeback victory at Merovick Gym and advance to the championship. The scores were 11-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-9.

“Whatever it is about them, we were in complete control and I don’t think we were overconfident by any stretch of the imagination,” Laguna Blanca coach Jason Donnelly said. “They started playing a little bit better and we were unable to adjust. Unfortunately in sports, as I told the kids, it happens. They got on a roll and we weren’t able to counter that.” READ MORE

2016 FOSTER CARE HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE

Two of Laguna Blanca's core values are "Community" and "Character." In keeping with those values, we, as a school, participate in various fundraising efforts throughout the year to assist people, animals, and organizations in need, both locally and globally. It is such a joy to see our students give from the heart and take notice of those less fortunate.

Now in its seventh year, the Foster Child Holiday Gift Drive remains a favorite of many on the Hope Ranch campus! There are more than 800 children in the Santa Barbara County foster care system, and each year LBS does its part to make the holiday season a little brighter for many of these children without permanent homes.

This year, the Dept. of Social Services turned their holiday gift program over to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). A representative from CASA gave us a supply of "wish lists" from children (infants to teens) who are living with foster families or in foster care group homes. Requests include items such as clothes, toys, sports equipment, and gift cards. Also included is the child's name, age, size, and suggested gift ideas. Wish lists were offered to students  at their advisory meetings (there is no obligation to participate). Should your child bring one home and you choose not to participate, simply return the list to Anna Alldredge as soon as possible.

Gifts are due on Wednesday, November 30, when participants bring their unwrapped gifts to Ruston Theater for a special Gr. 5-12 assembly. CASA representatives will be in attendance at the assembly and Laguna will hand over the hundreds of gifts provided by our families, faculty, and staff. It's a most heartwarming assembly which you are invited to attend!
