ARTIST INSPIRES LAGUNA
BLANCA STUDENTS
BY JULIA RODGERS
Reprinted from the Montecito Journal
Cassandria
Blackmore is the kind of mom who doesn’t mind getting paint
splattered all over her clothes when she helps out with an art
project at school. And she’s patient and caring with the
children, showing them how to wield a big paintbrush in their
small hands and blend paint colors.
Blackmore is also a very distinguished artist, with her pieces of
art being sold at galleries and displayed in museums all over the
country. Large-scale installations of her artwork hanging in
fancy hotels all over the world.

CONGRATS TO BOY'S SOCCER
FOR A GREAT SEASON!
From Noozhawk:
The California Military Institute scored in the
final minute of regulation time and defeated Laguna Blanca, 2-1,
in a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 boys soccer playoff match on
Wednesday at Laguna.
Laguna Blanca broke a scoreless game in the 50th
minute on a goal by Ethan Tyng '18 and generated several
more chances to score.
But CMI got the equalizer in the 65th minute on a
penalty kick. The teams went back and forth for the final 15
minutes of regulation. CMI put together an attack in the final
minute and scored the game winner.
"It's a hard way to end the season, but we
can learn from this moving into next season," Laguna
co-coach Goff Boyoko said. "Laguna Blanca, although unable
to make it back to the CIF final, has a lot to be proud of."
Co-coach Jon Curry expressed his thanks to the
team's four seniors (Armon Ghodoussi, Mikey Hawker, Philip
Fauntleroy, and Ben Rios), who were a key part of the team's
success.
"Our group of boys have come so far this
year," he said. "Although losing hurts now, we are excited
to be returning a large group of players, continuing to build a
culture around hard work, commitment and teamwork at Laguna
Blanca.
"We are both excited for next year and
thankful to all our parents for a great season."

LAGUNA STUDENTS &
LAGUNA THERAPY DOG REACH OUT TO FOSTER CARE CHILDREN IN SANTA
BARBARA
|
Six
Laguna students accompanied by Trish McHale and Rose Steeber
visited the Santa Barbara County Resource Families Association
this past Friday.
Following the annual Foster Care Gift Drive in
December, students inquired about volunteering with children who
are in foster care. After a series of emails and inquiries,
Lillian Pipersburg, a facilitator with the Santa Barbara County
Child Welfare Services for Resource Families, came to Laguna
Blanca to meet the students who expressed an interest in
volunteering and returned to offer the group training.
While foster parents attended a monthly
training/education session, Pisci Abrego '20, Giovanna
Alvarez '20, Juliette Sorensen '20, Aura Carlson
'18, Rose Houglet '18, and senior Bjorn Lindskog
'16 entertained approximately 30 children.
The students had a great time participating in
many games of Spike Ball, Jenga, and Legos, and plan to return
monthly to assist with childcare while foster parents attend
education sessions. Cicciu (pictured), who is certified by
Therapy Dogs International and is often seen wagging his tail on
the Hope Ranch campus, was also on hand to spread his puppy
love.

BOOK SOUP PRESENTATIONS
INSPIRE EIGHTH GRADERS TO READ MORE
|
This
month, eighth grade students in Ms. Alldredge’s English class had
an opportunity to present an outside reading book to the class in
a format called “Book Soup.”
Each student created and presented to their classmates a book
trailer video to entice them to try the book themselves. Then,
the student jumped into the "soup" in the middle of the
room, and got "cooked" with two rounds of questions.
"By the end of our first book soup day, we had lots of
students quite excited about reading each other's book
recommendations. Just what I was hoping for!”
To read more, and to view the students’ book trailers, visit Anna
Alldredge’s blog, Humming Along.
