STORYTELLER MICHAEL KATZ AT THE LOWER SCHOOL THIS SATURDAY 12/12

Laguna Blanca is proud to host renowned storyteller Michael Katz for a very special Story Time. Michael tells stories, which weave together both the comic and the profound, using his own highly energetic, animated, and interactive style of storytelling. He has performed at theaters, concert halls, festivals, school assemblies, and libraries throughout the U.S., including the openings of both the Los Angeles Getty Center and the Disney Concert Hall. He is also the host of radio storytelling program Katz Pajamas heard on NPR station KCBX FM, and is one of the founding members of the national touring theatre company, BOXTALES.

The event takes place from 9-10AM and is open to the community--Bring a Friend!

BAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

With the holidays approaching, many kids are busy working on their wish lists, but for Laguna Blanca sixth-grader Nicole Khodabandehlou, the holidays are a time to give back. She is elbow-deep in flour and sugar in preparation for her big bake sale this weekend (12/12) to benefit the Unity Shoppe.

LAGUNA UNWRAPS THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON AT THE 7TH ANNUAL FOSTER CARE GIFT DRIVE

On Wednesday, December 9, the Middle and Upper School community gathered together in Ruston Amphitheater for the Seventh Annual Holiday Gift Drive assembly, benefiting children in the foster care system throughout Santa Barbara County.

Representatives from the Department of Social Services and a former foster child thanked our students for the generously donated gifts.

Thank you to all who participated and to the more than 15 student elves who helped to wrap all the gifts at the Department of Social Services after school on Wednesday.

JUST IMAGINE...ANNUAL FUND 2015

Special thanks to our volunteer Annual Fund Class Captains who have been working hard to kick-off our 2015-16 Annual Fund. Over the course of the school year, they will be reaching out and asking for your participation in this year's Annual Fund.

The Annual Fund provides immediate budgetary support for numerous programs and needs, including: the best teaching tools and classroom equipment; technology and hardware upgrades; across-the-board support for our arts programs; maintenance and upkeep that keep our campuses safe and enjoyable for our students everyday; financial assistance for socioeconomic diversity and increased opportunities for teachers to grow professionally.

Gifts of any size can be made to the Annual Fund, and all contributions help build a foundation of support that gives us the strength and flexibility to offer students an environment that promotes deeper learning. An environment where students are encouraged to explore their passions, step outside of their comfort zones, and become the best version of themselves.

Your support goes a long way towards providing the opportunities that embody the Laguna experience.

A BIG thank you to the following class captains who are helping drive Laguna's goal of 100% participation!

If you are a parent in 2nd or 7th grade and would like to help us with our Annual Fund outreach, please contact Sam Buck at sbuck@lagunablanca.org or Marcy Jacobs at mjacobs@lagunablanca.org.

Thank you.

LAGUNA WELCOMES A NEW BUS DRIVER

Vince Nixon recently joined the staff of Laguna and will be working as a bus driver along with Alberto.

Welcome, Vince!

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHANGE DRIVE RESULTS

The Middle School completed their very successful change drive for Direct Relief International. Each Middle School house competed to gather the most change. If there were any dollar bills in their bin, that counted against the total. Houses would add bills into their opponents' bins in an attempt to knock down the total change collected. The competition resulted in a tremendous amount of change and a whole lot of fun for a good cause.

This change drive has helped enable a school nurse to be provided for a school in Haiti.

Thank you Middle School!
